What Does It Cost to Let Customers Pay Your Invoice Online?

No Friendly8 fee per invoice: you only pay Mollie, usually €0.32 per iDEAL payment.

Letting customers pay your invoice online with Friendly8 costs you only Mollie's own transaction fee - usually €0.32 per paid invoice via iDEAL. Friendly8 adds no fee per invoice and no fee per payment, and an invoice that isn't paid costs you nothing at all.

That's the short answer. Here's how it works, what each payment method costs, and what a €500 invoice really leaves you with.

Why do customers pay late?

You finish the job, send the invoice, and then wait. Your customer has to open their banking app, copy your IBAN, type the amount and the invoice number, and hope they got it right. Plenty of people mean to do it "tonight" and forget.

A "Pay now" link on the invoice removes that friction. Your customer clicks, picks iDEAL or another method, and the invoice is paid in seconds. For freelancers and small businesses in the Netherlands and Belgium, that's often the difference between paid this week and paid next month.

How do online invoice payments work in Friendly8?

Online payments in Invoices8, the invoicing part of Friendly8, run through your own Mollie account. You connect it once with Mollie Connect, so there's no new payment provider contract with Friendly8.

  1. Connect your own Mollie account in the Invoices8 settings (Mollie Connect, a secure OAuth login).
  2. Send your invoice as usual: every sent invoice gets a "Pay now" link.
  3. Your customer pays with the methods you enabled in Mollie, and the invoice is marked paid automatically when Mollie confirms the payment.

A few things worth knowing:

  • The money goes straight to your own Mollie balance. Friendly8 never holds your money.
  • No platform fee. Friendly8 charges no application fee per payment or per invoice.
  • Reminders stay simple. For unpaid invoices there's a manual "Send reminder" button.
  • Refunds happen in Mollie. You refund from your own Mollie dashboard or your bank, not from Friendly8.

Online payments are available on the Friendly8 Growth plan (€19 per user per month) or higher.

What does Mollie charge per payment method?

What does a €500 invoice cost to get paid online?

The payment method your customer picks makes a big difference. For a €500 invoice, according to Mollie's pricing page:

Customer pays with Mollie fee Friendly8 fee
iDEAL €0.32 €0
Consumer card (EEA) €9.25 €0
Business card (EEA) €14.75 €0

iDEAL is a flat fee, so it stays €0.32 whether the invoice is €50 or €5,000. Card fees are a percentage plus €0.25, so they grow with the invoice amount. If most of your customers are Dutch, enabling iDEAL keeps your cost per paid invoice at a few cents.

You choose which methods you offer in your Mollie account. Your customers can only pay with the methods you switched on.

What does an unpaid invoice cost?

Nothing. Mollie charges per successful transaction, and Friendly8 charges no fee per invoice. Sending an invoice with a "Pay now" link costs you nothing until your customer actually pays.
